Angio Suite
Our state-of-the-art Angio Suite brings hospital-caliber endovascular procedures to a comfortable outpatient setting. Minimally invasive catheter-based treatments for arterial, venous, and dialysis access conditions — performed by board-certified vascular surgeons.
Hospital-Caliber Care in an Outpatient Setting
The Angio Suite at Vascular Surgical Associates is equipped with advanced fluoroscopic imaging and digital subtraction angiography (DSA), allowing our surgeons to perform complex endovascular procedures without the need for a hospital operating room. This technology provides real-time, high-resolution visualization of blood vessels during catheter-based interventions, ensuring precision and safety throughout every procedure.
By performing these procedures in our own outpatient facility, we are able to offer shorter procedure times, faster recovery, and a more comfortable patient experience. Most patients are discharged the same day and can return to normal activities within 24 to 48 hours, avoiding the extended hospital stays and higher costs associated with inpatient procedures.
All Angio Suite procedures are performed by the same board-certified vascular surgeons who also perform open surgical repairs. This comprehensive expertise means your surgeon understands the full spectrum of treatment options and can recommend the approach best suited to your condition, whether endovascular, surgical, or a combination of both.
Your Angio Suite Procedure
From initial consultation through recovery, our team ensures a safe, efficient, and comfortable experience at every stage of your endovascular procedure.
Consultation & Planning
Your vascular surgeon reviews your imaging and medical history, explains the recommended procedure, and answers all of your questions to develop a personalized treatment plan.
Pre-Procedure Preparation
On the day of your procedure, our clinical team prepares you with appropriate sedation and local anesthesia. Pre-operative labs and imaging are confirmed to ensure safety.
The Procedure
Using real-time fluoroscopic guidance, your surgeon accesses the treatment area through a small catheter insertion site. The endovascular intervention is performed with precision and minimal discomfort.
Recovery & Follow-Up
After a brief monitoring period in our recovery area, most patients are discharged the same day. A follow-up appointment is scheduled to review results and ensure optimal healing.
Endovascular Procedures at Our Angio Suite
Our board-certified vascular surgeons perform a comprehensive range of minimally invasive catheter-based procedures in our fully equipped Angio Suite.
Peripheral Angioplasty & Stenting
Balloon angioplasty widens narrowed or blocked arteries in the legs and arms, restoring blood flow to oxygen-deprived tissues. When necessary, a stent is placed to provide structural support and keep the artery open long-term, reducing the risk of re-narrowing.
Atherectomy
Specialized catheter devices are used to mechanically remove atherosclerotic plaque from inside diseased arteries. Atherectomy is particularly effective for calcified or hardened blockages that may not respond well to balloon angioplasty alone, restoring vessel patency with precision.
Thrombolysis & Thrombectomy
Catheter-directed thrombolysis delivers clot-dissolving medication directly to the site of a vascular occlusion, while mechanical thrombectomy uses specialized devices to physically extract blood clots. These techniques rapidly restore blood flow in acute and chronic thrombotic conditions.
Embolization
Controlled occlusion of targeted blood vessels using coils, particles, or other embolic agents delivered through a catheter. Embolization is used to treat bleeding, small aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and other conditions requiring selective vessel closure.
Dialysis Access Interventions
Fistulaplasty uses balloon angioplasty to open narrowed segments within arteriovenous fistulas or grafts used for hemodialysis. Thrombectomy removes clots that block dialysis access, restoring function and avoiding the need for temporary catheters or access replacement.
IVC Filter Placement & Retrieval
Inferior vena cava (IVC) filters are placed through a catheter to capture blood clots traveling from the legs toward the lungs, preventing life-threatening pulmonary embolism. Our surgeons also perform filter retrieval when the device is no longer needed.
Outpatient Convenience
Most procedures are completed and patients discharged the same day, avoiding hospital stays and reducing costs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about our Angio Suite and endovascular procedures.
An endovascular procedure is a minimally invasive treatment performed from inside the blood vessels. Instead of making a large surgical incision, the surgeon inserts a thin catheter through a small puncture, typically in the groin or wrist, and guides it to the treatment area using real-time X-ray imaging (fluoroscopy). Through this catheter, the surgeon can perform a variety of interventions such as angioplasty, stenting, atherectomy, and clot removal. Because these procedures avoid large incisions, patients experience less pain, shorter recovery times, and lower risk of complications compared to traditional open surgery.
In the vast majority of cases, no. One of the primary advantages of having your procedure performed in our Angio Suite is that most patients are discharged the same day. After your procedure, you will be monitored in our recovery area for a period of time to ensure stability, and then released to go home with a responsible adult driver. Your surgeon will provide detailed post-procedure instructions. In rare circumstances where extended observation is warranted, arrangements will be made in advance.
Recovery time varies depending on the specific procedure performed, but most patients can return to light activities within 24 to 48 hours. The catheter insertion site may have mild soreness or bruising for several days. Your surgeon will provide specific activity restrictions, which typically include avoiding heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for about one week. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled to evaluate your healing, review procedure results, and adjust any medications as needed. Many patients return to their normal routine within a few days.
Yes, most endovascular procedures performed in our Angio Suite are covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and major private insurance plans when they are deemed medically necessary. Our office staff will verify your insurance benefits and obtain any required prior authorizations before your procedure is scheduled. If you have questions about coverage or out-of-pocket costs, our billing team is available to help you understand your benefits and financial responsibility. We are committed to ensuring that cost does not stand in the way of receiving the vascular care you need.
