About VSA Prosthetics
From Surgery to Mobility, All Under One Roof
VSA Prosthetics provides a unique advantage that most prosthetic providers cannot offer: direct collaboration between your vascular surgeon and your certified prosthetist. Because amputation is frequently the result of vascular disease, having both specialists work together from the start leads to better surgical outcomes, optimal residual limb shaping, and a smoother transition to prosthetic use.
Our certified prosthetists use the latest technology in prosthetic design, including advanced socket systems, microprocessor-controlled components, and custom fabrication techniques. Every prosthesis is designed around your unique anatomy, lifestyle goals, and activity level to help you regain independence and confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about our prosthetic care services and what to expect during the process.
The timeline for prosthetic fitting varies depending on your healing progress, but most patients can begin the fitting process four to eight weeks after amputation surgery. During the healing period, your surgical team and prosthetist will work together to manage swelling and shape the residual limb using compression techniques. An early consultation with our prosthetist, even before surgery when possible, helps set expectations and plan for the best outcome.
Yes, most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, provide coverage for prosthetic devices when medically necessary. Coverage levels vary by plan and may depend on the type of prosthesis and components prescribed. Our office staff will work directly with your insurance provider to verify benefits, obtain prior authorizations, and help you understand any out-of-pocket costs before treatment begins.
Learning to walk with a prosthesis is a gradual process that varies for each individual. Most patients begin walking with assistance within the first few days of receiving their prosthesis and continue to improve over several weeks to months. Factors that influence the timeline include your overall health, level of amputation, pre-amputation activity level, and commitment to rehabilitation exercises. Our team provides ongoing gait training and support throughout your journey.
During the first year, you can expect more frequent visits as your residual limb continues to change shape and you adapt to using your prosthesis. Most patients visit every two to four weeks initially, then transition to quarterly check-ups as things stabilize. After the first year, annual evaluations are recommended, along with visits as needed for adjustments, repairs, or component upgrades. Our team is always available to address comfort or fit concerns between scheduled appointments.
