About Our Vein Center

Advanced Vein Treatment From Board-Certified Vascular Surgeons

The Vein Center at Vascular Surgical Associates has been the trusted destination for vein care in metro Atlanta since 1986. Unlike cosmetic-only clinics, our vein treatments are performed by board-certified vascular surgeons who understand the full spectrum of venous disease—from spider veins to severe chronic venous insufficiency.

Every patient begins with a comprehensive duplex ultrasound evaluation in our ICAVL-accredited vascular lab to identify the root cause of their vein symptoms. This diagnostic-first approach ensures that treatment targets the source of the problem, delivering lasting results rather than temporary fixes.

All of our vein procedures are performed in the comfort of our office-based clinics using local anesthesia. Most patients return to normal activities within 24 to 48 hours, and the majority of medically necessary treatments are covered by insurance.

Endovenous Laser Ablation
Laser energy seals diseased veins from the inside, rerouting blood to healthy vessels.
Radiofrequency Ablation
Gentle radiofrequency heat closes refluxing veins with minimal bruising and discomfort.
VenaSeal Closure
Medical adhesive permanently seals diseased veins without heat or tumescent anesthesia.
Sclerotherapy
Injection-based treatment that collapses spider veins and smaller varicose veins.
What to Expect

Your Vein Treatment Journey

From your first visit to full recovery, our team guides you through every step of the process with personalized attention and expert care.

1

Consultation

Meet with a board-certified vascular surgeon to discuss your symptoms, medical history, and treatment goals in a thorough initial evaluation.

2

Ultrasound Mapping

A comprehensive duplex ultrasound maps the anatomy of your venous system, identifying exactly which veins are refluxing and need treatment.

3

Treatment

Your customized procedure is performed in-office under local anesthesia. Most treatments take 30 to 60 minutes, and you walk out the same day.

4

Follow-Up

A follow-up ultrasound confirms successful vein closure. Most patients resume normal activities within one to two days after the procedure.

Treatments We Offer

Comprehensive Vein Treatments

Our Vein Center provides a full range of minimally invasive vein treatments tailored to each patient’s unique condition and goals.

Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA)

A thin laser fiber is inserted into the diseased vein through a tiny incision. Laser energy heats and seals the vein wall, redirecting blood flow to healthy vessels. This is the gold-standard treatment for great saphenous vein reflux.

Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)

Uses controlled radiofrequency energy to heat and close incompetent veins through a catheter-based approach. RFA delivers consistent, gentle heat that results in less bruising and a smoother recovery compared to traditional surgical stripping.

VenaSeal Closure System

A medical-grade adhesive is delivered directly into the diseased vein, permanently sealing it shut. VenaSeal requires no tumescent anesthesia and no compression stockings after the procedure, offering the fastest return to activity.

Sclerotherapy

A sclerosing solution is injected into spider veins and reticular veins, causing them to collapse and fade over several weeks. Sclerotherapy is ideal for smaller veins that are not amenable to thermal or adhesive closure techniques.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Bulging varicose veins are removed through tiny puncture incisions using specialized hooks under local anesthesia. The micro-incisions typically require no stitches and heal with minimal scarring, providing immediate cosmetic improvement.

Spider Vein Treatment

Targeted treatment for clusters of tiny red, blue, or purple veins visible on the skin surface. Our approach combines visual and ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy to eliminate spider veins and improve the appearance of your legs.

Minimally Invasive

All treatments use tiny incisions or needle punctures with no general anesthesia required. No surgical stripping.

In-Office Procedures

Performed in the comfort of our vein clinic. No hospital visit, no operating room, no overnight stay needed.

Quick Recovery

Most patients return to work and daily activities within one to two days. Walk out the same day as your procedure.

Insurance Covered

Most medically necessary vein treatments are covered by major insurance plans. We verify benefits before scheduling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about vein treatments at our Vein Center.

Yes, most major insurance plans cover medically necessary vein treatments including endovenous laser ablation, radiofrequency ablation, and ambulatory phlebectomy. Our staff will verify your insurance benefits and obtain any required prior authorization before scheduling your procedure. Cosmetic-only treatments such as sclerotherapy for isolated spider veins may not be covered. We will provide a clear estimate of any out-of-pocket costs during your consultation.

Recovery time varies by procedure but is generally very short. For endovenous laser ablation and radiofrequency ablation, most patients return to work and normal activities within one to two days. VenaSeal patients often resume activity the same day. You will be asked to wear compression stockings for a period after thermal treatments and to walk regularly. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for approximately one to two weeks. Your surgeon will provide specific recovery instructions tailored to your procedure.

The right treatment depends on the size, location, and severity of your venous disease. During your initial consultation, a comprehensive duplex ultrasound will map the anatomy of your veins and identify which vessels are causing your symptoms. Your vascular surgeon will then recommend a personalized treatment plan that may include one or a combination of procedures. Many patients require a staged approach—for example, ablation of the saphenous vein followed by sclerotherapy or phlebectomy of remaining branch varicosities.

You should consider seeing a vein specialist if you experience leg heaviness, aching, swelling, cramping, restless legs, or visible varicose or spider veins. You should seek prompt evaluation if you notice skin discoloration or hardening around the ankles, open sores or ulcers on your legs, or if a varicose vein bleeds. Early evaluation and treatment can prevent progression to more advanced stages of venous disease and improve your quality of life significantly.
